Different Kinds of Camera Shots
What I found very interesting about last week that we discussed was the different kinds of shots that can be taken. There are a few different shots to help give people an idea of what is going on in the scene. There is a wide shot, medium shot, and close-up shot. These kinds of shots help give different emotions as well.
Wide shots usually reveal a location in a scene for the most part. This kind of shot can simply show something like a mountain, or city for an example. It helps put you into that setting making you feel like you are by that mountain or in the city. Some wide shots can be used by what can be happening with the world. If there is a huge storm coming that's being shown, it makes you aware of danger.
A close-up shot helps us see the emotions in characters as well as dialogue. It helps get an idea if something is going well or not. An example would be two people arguing with each other and you can tell they are both angry. Sometimes it doesn't even have to be people. It can also be an object, like a toy. Sometimes objects like a toy can help us visualize what it's supposed to represent.
A medium shot can both show a location and conflict between characters. With the characters though, they'll usually will be in the same shot at once. An example of that would be two characters walking and talking in a city. That helps get an idea that maybe the city has something to do with the characters, so it can all tie together. Sometimes, it can be a little harder to see more emotions with a medium shot than it is a close-up.
