Before The Flood

Image
This weekend, I had to watch a documentary called, “Before the Flood” for one of my classes. It’s a film that talks about climate change and how it’s affecting the world. The film has Leonardo DiCaprio, and he talks about some solutions we can come up with and what we need to do to help prevent climate change from getting worse. He even talks about how it personally affected him while filming his movie “The Revenant.” DiCaprio even travels around the world to talk to different people about what we can do to solve problems. During production of “The Revenant,” DiCaprio states that they had a hard time getting snow. They said that filming took place in Canada, and that it was too warm. It was supposed to be a location where it had a lot of snow. Since they couldn’t get the snow that they wanted, they had to make fake snow to help continue filming. Overall, it makes you think of what we can do better by making better decisions, even if it’s something little. Overa...

"Breathless" by Jean-Luc Godard Blog Post

"Breathless" was a pretty interesting film. It was one of the movies that was during the French New Wave. The jump cuts were one of the things that came in mind while watching. It definitely made it clear that jump cuts were occurring during the film. We see these kind of cuts a lot in films nowadays and I think it help inspire them too.     The main character Michel was a very interesting character to say the least. I honestly wasn't sure if I wanted to root for him or not because of his actions. Doing things like stealing money and stealing a car, you can definitely tell this guy was up to no good. I think another thing is that he doesn't care if he admitted that he cheated on his girlfriend Patricia. His character also just had a really big ego and you can tell he didn't care one bit.     At the end of the film, I can say that I didn't support Michel for most of the time. Usually during a film to m...

Different Kinds of Camera Shots

Image
What I found very interesting about last week that we discussed was the different kinds of shots that can be taken. There are a few different shots to help give people an idea of what is going on in the scene. There is a wide shot, medium shot, and close-up shot. These kinds of shots help give different emotions as well.     Wide shots usually reveal a location in a scene for the most part. This kind of shot can simply show something like a mountain, or city for an example. It helps put you into that setting making you feel like you are by that mountain or in the city. Some wide shots can be used by what can be happening with the world. If there is a huge storm coming that's being shown, it makes you aware of danger.     A close-up shot helps us see the emotions in characters as well as dialogue. It helps get an idea if something is going well or not. An example would be two people arguing with each other and you can tell they are both angry. Some...
